Poetry slams have been organized in Latvia since 2010, when the movement was started by Kaspars Lielgalvis and the art center “Totaldobže”.
Anyone who writes poetry and wants to share it, is invited to participate in the poetry slam. “Participants perform their poetry, using intonation, rhythm, and emotion to move the audience and draw attention to what is important to them. The poetry slam is an event not only for poets, but also for the audience – audience involvement is essential, everyone is invited to support the poet by expressing their opinion with a numerical rating.
